In recent years, Cannabidiol has taken the wellness world by storm, with countless individuals integrating it into their daily routines. CBD offers a range of potential benefits, and its use extends beyond stress relief and relaxation. For those looking to enhance their fitness journey, CBD gummies can be a game-changer.

CBD has been making waves in the wellness world for its potential health benefits, and it’s no wonder why. From stress relief to pain management, the uses for CBD are vast and varied. However, one benefit that should be talked about more is its potential to enhance one’s fitness journey. This is where gummies come in. CBDfx CBD gummies offer a delicious and convenient way to incorporate CBD into your daily routine, whether before a workout or as part of your post-workout recovery. Gummies can aid in reducing inflammation and muscle soreness, potentially enhancing your physical performance. It’s no wonder more and more individuals are turning to CBD gummies to take their fitness game to the next level.

Benefits of adding CBD gummies to your daily fitness routine

Reduced exercise-induced inflammation

After an intense workout, it’s common to experience some level of inflammation and soreness in your muscles. CBD is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce exercise-induced inflammation. By incorporating CBD gummies into your post-workout routine, you may experience quicker recovery times and less discomfort, enabling you to get back to your fitness regimen sooner.

It’s important to note that while some studies suggest CBD’s anti-inflammatory potential, individual responses may vary. Understanding that Gummies should not replace professional medical advice or treatment for injuries is crucial.

Pain management

Individuals who are managing chronic pain conditions or injuries related to exercise may consider CBD gummies as a natural and potentially effective choice for pain management. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system, which is involved in the perception and control of pain.

By consuming CBD gummies, you may find relief from pain, allowing you to engage in your fitness routine more comfortably. Seeking guidance from a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and the proper treatment of chronic pain conditions is crucial. Viewing CBD as the sole remedy for severe pain is not advisable.

Enhanced relaxation and stress reduction

Exercise is an excellent stress reliever, yet for some individuals, it can also trigger anxiety and stress. CBD has the potential to encourage relaxation and alleviate stress and anxiety. Integrating Gummies into your daily routine may enable you to experience the calming benefits of CBD, rendering your fitness journey more enjoyable and less stressful. While CBD may have anxiety-reducing properties, it should not replace prescribed medications or professional therapy for individuals with clinical anxiety disorders.

Improved sleep quality

A good night’s sleep is crucial for muscle recovery and overall well-being. CBD gummies may potentially enhance the quality of sleep by addressing factors that impact sleep, such as pain and anxiety. Better sleep can lead to improved energy levels and increased motivation to stick to your fitness routine. CBD’s impact on sleep can vary among individuals, and it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider if you have chronic sleep disorders.

Appetite regulation

Sustaining a nutritious diet is a crucial component of any fitness regimen. CBD gummies may help regulate your appetite. Research suggests that CBD interacts with receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system, potentially influencing appetite control. Eating CBD gummies might help you make healthier dietary choices and stay committed to your fitness objectives. It’s important to use CBD gummies as a part of a balanced diet and not solely rely on them for appetite regulation.

Balanced energy levels

Consistency in your fitness routine is critical to achieving your goals. CBD gummies can contribute to maintaining balanced energy levels throughout the day. By promoting overall well-being and reducing stress, CBD can help you stay motivated and energized, ensuring that you can complete your workouts with enthusiasm. CBD should not be considered a stimulant, and its impact on energy levels may vary among individuals.

CBD Gummies: What to look for

When considering CBD gummies for your fitness routine, it’s crucial to choose high-quality products from reputable brands. Look for the following qualities in CBD gummies:

  1. Full-Spectrum or Isolate: Decide whether you prefer full-spectrum gummies, which contain a range of cannabinoids and terpenes, or isolate gummies, which include pure CBD. Your choice should align with your specific fitness goals.
  2. Third-Party Lab Testing: Ensure that the gummies you choose have undergone third-party lab testing to verify their potency and purity.
  3. Dosage: Select gummies with an appropriate CBD dosage for your needs. Commence with a lower dosage and make gradual adjustments based on your personal experience.
  4. Flavor and Ingredients: Consider your flavor preferences and any dietary restrictions when choosing CBD gummies.

Conclusion

Incorporating CBD gummies into your daily fitness routine can have significant benefits, from reducing muscle soreness and inflammation to improving sleep, lessening stress and anxiety, increasing energy, decreasing appetite, and enhancing focus. CBD gummies might be the perfect addition to your daily workout routine.

However, it is crucial to make sure you approach any new supplement regimen with the utmost care. Before introducing CBD gummies into your daily routine, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional. With the proper guidance, CBD gummies can be the perfect addition to your post-workout recovery routine, helping you feel your best and stay at the top of your fitness game.

Rockland Alumni Cross Country Run Marks 40th Anniversary

The irresistible pull of a special place, the renewal of old ties and hints of nostalgia brought runners of all stripes back to Bear Mountain State Park on Saturday, November 25 for the 40th anniversary Bill Markiewicz Memorial Rockland County Alumni Cross Country Run. Co-sponsored by the Rockland Road Runners, it is the only county-wide alumni athletic event in Rockland, accepting participants of post-high school age from any secondary school home or abroad.

The special place is Bear Mountain, a national historic landmark that welcomes the harrier brigade every year with beckoning invitations to ramble across the playing field past the majestic Inn, make a circuit (or two) around pristine Hessian Lake, continue the tour past the ice-skating rink and the Carousel, and conclude the jaunt with another bracing charge across the great lawn to the finish line.

What the runners did not encounter this year, for the first time ever, was “The Hill” – a steep, crater-strewn climb of the access path leading up to the old ski-jumping launch. A devastating storm in July inflicted major damage to Bear Mountain, including the collapse of pavement on the ski-jump trail, rendering it impassable and off limits to the public. The course was adjusted to eliminate the brutal hill – much to the delight of many entrants but to the chagrin of some die-hard traditionalists – and instead added a second loop around Hessian Lake before the customary finish past the rink, merry-go- round and basketball courts.

Meet directors Tom Doherty and Ralph Coleman ushered the 129 participants through their paces on a sunny but chilly upper-30s-degree day, assisted by minions Lou Hall, Jim Glover (Friday course set-up) and Pat Chambers, Albertus Magnus class of 1976, the inaugural Alumni Run champion. Corey Calajoe, Pearl River class of 2004, etched his name in the record books with his third consecutive victory. Among male participants, Art Gunther, Tappan Zee class of 1989, remains unsurpassed with seven championships. But Calajoe now shares second place with course record-holder and 1992 Olympian John Trautmann, Monroe- Woodbury class of 1985. Both have earned three titles. Calajoe navigated the new three-mile layout in 16 minutes 34 seconds for a 22-second victory over runner-up Adam Alshoubeki (16:56), Monroe-Woodbury class of 2016. Calajoe, who ran in the shadow of star teammate Brendan Fennell at Pearl River, has set his sights on a sub-2:40 clocking at the upcoming California International Marathon on December 3.

The female winner’s name will be familiar to Rockland track & cross country aficionados. Caile Kohlbrenner Martinez, Tappan Zee class of 2011, captured her sixth Alumni Run crown but first since 2015, which was the last of her five consecutive triumphs from 2011 to 2015. Caile clocked 19:50 for a 12-second margin over runner-up Suzanne La Burt, Monroe-Woodbury class of 1981. Caile, who now lives in Hawaii, stands second on the all-time victory list, two behind leader Julianne Littmann-Viscardo, Monroe-Woodbury class of 1995. Caile’s dad, Andy Kohlbrenner, Pearl River class of 1981, a standout runner for Pearl River and multi-time runner-up in the Alumni Run, cheered proudly for Caile from the sidelines. La Burt added to her illustrious resume of achievement, claiming her ninth runner-up fi nish to complement her three championships and four third-place efforts.

Clarkstown South annexed its third men’s team championship but first since 2000 with a winning score of 68 points, followed by Tappan Zee with 78. The South Vikings alumni were spearheaded by sixth-place finisher Adam Klein (17:26), class of 2014, a former Dominican College (now Dominican University) runner and current coach at Nyack High School.

For the first time in the race’s history, Tappan Zee secured the women’s team title, scoring 55 points for a decisive vic- tory over runner-up Monroe-Woodbury, which tallied 110. Grace Reynolds, class of 2022, paced the Dutchies’ alumnae with a sixth-place finish in 21:07. Tappan Zee coach Pat Driscoll, Clarkstown North class of 1998, who enjoyed a top-20 showing himself (19th , 18:59), exhibited pride in the victories of both the Tappan Zee alumnae and the current crop of TZ scholastic harriers, who captured the school’s first girls’ County team championship since 1977, last month at Bear Mountain.

The Crusaders of Monroe-Woodbury cruised to their 13th straight participation title, which combines men and women entrants, and 20 th title overall with 17 participants. Suffern finished second with 13, followed by Pearl River and Tappan Zee with 12 apiece.

The race is named in memory of Bill Markiewicz, Albertus Magnus class of 1967, the universally beloved former Clarkstown North coach (1978-1989) who succumbed to cancer in 1991. After his passing, the Bill Markiewicz Award was conceived to honor longtime, dedicated contributors to
Rockland cross country. The award, bestowed each year at the Alumni Run, was presented this year to Janet Markiewicz, Bill’s widow, who has attended each year since the award was instituted in the early 1990s, with the inaugural award going posthumously to her husband.

“Now I have a plaque to hang next to Bill’s,” said Janet, who lives in Warwick and was joined at the race by many Markiewicz family members, including Bill’s brothers Mike and Tom, as well as Bill and Janet’s sons Luke and Dan. Dan Markiewicz, Goshen class of 1996, completed the race in a creditable 29th place in 20:32.

A moment of silence was observed before the race for Pete Beckerle, Spring Valley class of 1948, who died suddenly at home, at age 93, on the eve of the race. He was a track and cross country runner at Spring Valley who participated in the Alumni event several times over the years and was a frequent, enthusiastic spectator and supporter. Pete Beckerle was a proud Korean War veteran and well-respected local business owner as head of Beckerle Lumber Supply Co., which was founded by his father, Laurence, in 1940 and still operates four locations in Rockland. Pete’s four sons –Larry, Stephen, Michael and Matt– joined to complete the Alumni route together, walking or running, in a show of solidarity in memory of their dad.

Larry Beckerle, Albertus Magnus class of 1973, finished the race for the 40th time, more than any other Alumni Run participant. Larry and his brothers were joined in the race by Matt’s daughter Kate and wife Laura. Other families well represented in the race were the Collins family of Mike, Helene, Kyle, Wesley and Dustin, and the Pinto family of Dianne, Cassandra, Faith and Darrel. Kyle Collins, Suffern class of 2012, won the race in 2014 and fared well this year, placing 17 th in 18:37.

In all, 90 men and 39 women took part in the event, representing 42 schools from nine states – New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maryland, Georgia, Texas and California – as well as one international participant from Great Britain, Bill Carpenter, the president of the sponsoring Rockland Road Runners.

Warren Berbit, Bayside class of 1960, was once again the oldest participant.

Four Former Rockland County Natives Who Made a Name For Themselves in Football

Rockland County is the smallest county by area in New York outside New York City, but that has not stopped it from producing some fantastic athletes. Rockland County natives love sports and always become excited when one of their own makes it into one of the big leagues. Several players who call the various parts of Rockland County home have gone on to forge professional sports careers, including the heroes you are about to read about; all four etched their names into football’s history books.

Jason McCourty

Jason McCourty was born in Nyack, New York, in August 1987. McCourty left Nyack in 2005 to attend Rutgers University, where he developed his skills as a cornerback. The then-youngster started three seasons for the Rutgers Scarlett Knights football team, ending his career with 148 tackles, two interceptions, and 20 pass breakups.

McCourty was not highly sought after coming out of college but entered the 2009 NFL Draft anyway. The Tennessee Titans selected him as the 203rd overall pick, offering McCourty a four-year, $1.84 million contract. Although sports betting Las Vegas punters did not often fancy the Titans to achieve glory, they gave McCourty his chance to shine in the NFL.

By 2011, McCourty was the first-choice cornerback for the Titans and was ever-present until a groin injury sidelined him in 2015. After eight years with the Titans, he left for the Cleveland Browns, spending one year with the Browns before signing for the New England Patriots. McCourty won the Super Bowl during the first of his three seasons with the Patriots before the final transfer of his NFL career saw him play for the Miami Dolphins in 2021. After appearing in seven games and starting in four, McCourty called time on his playing career.

Devin McCourty

Devin McCourty is the twin brother of Jason McCourty mentioned above. He played college football for Rutgers Scarlett Knights, mainly as a cornerback alongside his brother. Unlike his brother, Devin McCourty was a hot prospect coming out of college, and the New England Patriots selected him as the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

McCourty immediately became a starter for the Patriots, first as a cornerback but then switching to safety. During his 13-year Patriots career, McCourty played and started 205 games, recorded 740 solo tackles, 231 assisted tackles, 35 interceptions, two touchdowns, and 110 pass defensed. In addition to those impressive statistics, McCourty won the Super Bowl in 2014, 2016, and again in 2018. He hung up his helmet at the end of the 2022 campaign.

Seth Joyner

Seth Joyner was born in November 1964 in Spring Valley, New York. Joyner graduated from Spring Valley High School and played college football for the UTEP Miners. Joyner, a linebacker, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 208th overall pick of the 1986 NFL Draft. However, the Eagles cut Joyner in the training camp but re-signed him later in the season. Joyner made the most of his second chance.

Joyner stayed with the Eagles from 1986 to 1993 and was selected for Pro Bowl duty twice during that time. The 6ft 2in, 245lb star famously played a Monday Night Football game against the Houston Oilers in 1991 despite nursing a 102-degree fever. Joyner recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and eight solo tackles while ill, showing his dogged determination and dedication to his teammates.

From 1994-1996, Joyner played for the Arizona Cardinals before heading to the Green Bay Packers in 1997. He reached the Super Bowl with the Packers but returned home on the losing side, with the Packers losing to the Denver Broncos. Joyner joined the Broncos the following year, reached the Super Bowl again, and became a Super Bowl champion in his final professional game.

Joyner ended his career with 52 sacks, 24 interceptions, 26 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and five defensive touchdowns.

Phil Bogle

Phil Bogle was born in September 1979 in Spring Valley, New York. Bogle’s footballing ability showed at an early age while playing for the Spring Valley High School football team. He received All-State, All-Section, and All-League selections.

Bogle attended the University of New Haven from 1999-2002, where he started every game as an offensive tackle. More awards followed, with Bogle becoming a First-team Division II All-Independent selection as a senior, in addition to winning the Jim Langer Award.

Surprisingly, Bogle went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft, although the San Diego Chargers signed him as an undrafted free agent. Although Bogle started 13 of the 16 games he played during his rookie season in 2003, a knee injury kept him out of the entire 2004 campaign. Recurring knee injuries limited Bogle’s playing time with the Chargers and later with the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bogle left the NFL and began playing in the Arena Football League, turning out for the Philadelphia Soul, Montreal Alouettes, Dallas Vigilantes, and Florida Tuskers. He served as head coach of Philadelphia Soul from 2013-19, starting his coaching role three years after retiring from playing. In June 2018, Bogle became the Director of Game Operations for the NFL.

Conclusion

The four men discussed in this article prove that anyone can make it in the world of professional sports regardless of where they call home. This quartet of stars dreamed of making it in the NFL despite being from the small county of Rockland County. Each spent countless hours honing their craft, and their hard work ultimately paid off.

The McCourty brothers went on to win four Super Bowls between them, while Seth Joyner also got his hands on a coveted championship ring. Then, there is Phil Bogle, whose NFL career was short thanks to injuries but whose achievements as a youngster earned him a place in the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame.

Dream big, work hard, and anything is possible.

A former Rockland athlete has made it all the way to the big game. Deuce Schwartz grew up in the Village of Suffern and played High School Football for Suffern HS before heading to Union College. He is in his second season as a 49ers offensive quality control coach. He joined the 49ers after spending the 2021 season as a defensive analyst at the University of Missouri.

San Francisco’s offense was led in 2022 by WR Brandon Aiyuk and RB Christian McCaffrey, who was acquired in a mid-season trade. Aiyuk registered 1,015 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, giving him the fi rst 1,000-yard season of his career. McCaffrey registered 1,210 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns after joining the team in Week 7. San Francisco saw three starting quarterbacks during the season, with rookie QB Brock Purdy becoming the team’s starter in Week 13. The 49ers offense remained explosive, as the team ranked fifth in the NFL in yards per game (365.6) and averaged 5.9 yards per play, the fourth-highest mark in the league.

Deuce Schwartz, a coach for the San Francisco 49ers and a native of Rockland County, New York, is in route to the Super Bowl!
Before attending Union College, Deuce Schwartz played high school football for Suffern High School, where he was raised in the village of Suffern. His tenure as the 49ers offensive quality control coach
is in its second season. Following his 2021 season as a defensive analyst at the University of Missouri, he was signed by the 49ers and has garnered significant success ever since.

In 2022, RB Christian McCaffery and WR Brandon Aiyuk, acquired in a trade in the middle of the season, led the San Francisco offense. With 1,015 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, Aiyuk
accumulated his first season in which he surpassed 1,000 yards. Following his Week 7 initiation with the team, McCaffrey accumulated 1,210 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns. Throughout the
season, San Francisco had three starting quarterbacks; in Week 13, newcomer QB Brock Purdy was named to the starting lineup. The 49ers maintained their explosiveness, ranking fifth in the NFL in yards per game (365.6) and fourth in the league in average yards per play (5.9), thus displaying the drastic uptrend in the team’s results since Schwartz’s arrival. Coaching The Best Offense in the NFL

While Schwartz’s involvement in the 49er’s offense is undoubtedly a proud moment for Rockland County natives, we should recognize how he’s a key instrument in the best offense in the NFL and
how talented the team really is. We know Schwartz and the offensive coaching staff have an easier life with such a talented squad, but which player for the San Francisco 49ers benefits the most from playing for a loaded offense surrounded by stars?

Purdy, who frequently has an astounding number of wide receivers and time to pass the ball, is the apparent choice. However, McCaffrey has also earned a respectable livelihood this season by running behind a Williams-led, formidable run-blocking offensive line. Before contact, McCaffrey averages 3.1 yards, which ranks him fourth among all running backs with at least 50 carries during the regular season and first among starting backs in the NFL. Some of that can be attributed to CMC's ability to force opponents to misfire and rapidly get downhill. Still, the O- line also receives a substantial amount of forward pressure.

Despite being recognized as a threat by opposing defenses, McCaffrey’ bad-box percentage (46.1%), which indicates the frequency with which he encounters eight or more defenders in the box when
aligned up in the backfield, is nearly identical to the league average. As Brandon Aiyuk, Kittle, and Deebo Samuel draw attention down the field, defenses are no longer inclined to pile bodies near the line of scrimmage.
If any team in the league owns the potential to stop Mahomes and The Chiefs in their tracks, the 49ers is that group! We expect New Jersey Online casinos to be filled with avid sports bettors
looking to fade San Fran on the point spread. Still, this talented unit of players and coaches shouldn’t be underestimated. Rockland County will unquestionably support Schwartz, who could make history as a local and become the first Superbowl-winning coach from the province.

An Inspiration On & Off the Field

He’ll make Rockland County headlines on Feb 11 for his NFL contributions, but Schwartz isn’t just a
hero on the field. In 2013, the San Francisco offensive quality control coach participated in a birthright excursion and enrolled in the bone marrow registry of Gift of Life. Nine years later, Tony Hartman, 49ers
devoted and native of San Francisco, was matched with Schwartz to receive a life-saving blood stem cell transplant following a leukemia diagnosis. The 49ers My Cause My Cleats initiative, sponsored by Shoe Palace, Schwartz, and Hartman, was unveiled on the field at Levi’s  Stadium for the first time by the 49ers and Gift of Life. After the heartfelt introduction, Schwartz commenced a comprehensive tour of the SAP Performance Facility and Levi’s Stadium with Hartman. They paused in restricted areas surrounding
the stadium, including the NRG Solar Terrace and the tunnels. Additionally, the two discussed their individual experiences as donors and recipients. Schwartz is an inspiration for all, and the entire Rockland County community will be part-time 49ers fans ahead of the Super Bowl LVIII!

The Kansas City Chiefs made a strategic move in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Xavier Worthy, a standout wide receiver from Texas, with the 28th pick. This article dives deep into the details of this pick, Worthy’s collegiate achievements, and the implications for both Worthy and the Chiefs moving forward.

We will explore each aspect of this development through structured sections and detailed analysis, ensuring that fans and enthusiasts gain a comprehensive understanding of the Chiefs’ draft strategy and Worthy’s potential impact on the team.

Trade Details

The Kansas City Chiefs were originally positioned at the 32nd pick but decided to trade up with the Buffalo Bills to secure the 28th pick. This strategic move allowed the Chiefs to draft Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy, adding a significant asset to their offensive lineup.

The decision to trade up indicates the Chiefs’ proactive approach to seize players who can make an immediate impact, reflecting their commitment to building a robust team capable of competing at the highest level.

Player Profile: Xavier Worthy’s Collegiate Career

Xavier Worthy had an illustrious career at the University of Texas, becoming a pivotal figure in the team’s offense. Over three seasons, Worthy amassed 197 receptions, 2,755 receiving yards, and 26 touchdown catches, ranking him third in school history for career touchdown receptions and sixth in receptions. His consistent performance, despite catching passes from four different quarterbacks, highlights his adaptability and skill as a top-tier receiver.

Combine Performance: Record-Breaking 40-Yard Dash

At the scouting combine in Indianapolis, Xavier Worthy made headlines by running a 4.21-second 40-yard dash, the fastest time ever recorded at the combine. This performance not only boosted his draft stock but also landed his combine shirt and shoes in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Worthy’s exceptional speed is anticipated to be a major asset for the Chiefs, providing a new dynamic to their already potent offense.

Role in Chiefs Offense: Integration Into Kansas City’s Scheme

With Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback, Xavier Worthy is expected to become a significant playmaking threat for the Kansas City Chiefs. His speed and ability to perform under pressure will complement the Chiefs’ offensive strategy, potentially increasing their vertical game and providing a reliable option in the passing attack.

Additionally, Worthy could serve as a hedge against a potential suspension of fellow receiver Rashee Rice, ensuring the Chiefs maintain depth and quality in their receiving corps.

Special Teams Contributions: Impact as a Return Specialist

Beyond his receiving capabilities, Xavier Worthy has also proven to be an effective kick and punt returner. Throughout his college career, he averaged 16.5 yards per kick return and 14.1 yards per punt return. His notable 74-yard punt return touchdown against BYU showcased his speed and agility, attributes that will likely be utilized by the Chiefs to enhance their special teams unit.

Draft Strategy: Chiefs’ Decision to Select Worthy

The decision by the Kansas City Chiefs to trade up and select Xavier Worthy could be seen as a strategic move to add speed and talent to their roster. While the Buffalo Bills could have benefited from a player like Worthy, the Chiefs’ acquisition certainly strengthens their offense, providing Patrick Mahomes with another explosive weapon.

This selection has been met with enthusiasm from Chiefs fans, who are excited about the potential impact Worthy can have on the team’s performance.

Fans looking to engage further with the draft’s outcomes can do so through ESPN BET Kansas. This platform allows enthusiasts to follow and bet on how the Chiefs’ draft choices will perform, providing a deeper connection to the draft process and the future stars of the NFL, all while enjoying the thrill of sports betting linked to their favorite team’s prospects.

Future Prospects: Worthy’s Role in the Team

As Xavier Worthy joins a Chiefs team that has recently won their second straight Super Bowl, his role is anticipated to be both dynamic and crucial. The team expects him to quickly integrate into their game plan, leveraging his speed and receiving skills to maintain their status as one of the most formidable teams in the NFL. His addition to the Chiefs is seen as a key component in their strategy to sustain their championship-level performance in the coming seasons.

By understanding each of these elements, it becomes clear how significant Xavier Worthy’s draft selection is to the Chiefs‘ future ambitions and how it may influence their strategies on both offense and special teams.

Downstate Casino Licensing Delay Extends to 2025

In a March update from the state Gaming Commission, it was revealed that New York will not be considering awarding casino licenses for the downstate region, including New York City, until late 2025. This is a significant delay from the initial expectations of a 2023 decision.

The reasons behind the disappointing delay are multiple. Firstly, the New York City Council must approve zoning changes before applications can even be considered. This is a bureaucratic process, and one that often involves public hearings, which can be time-consuming and complex. On top of this, the Gaming Commission aims to ensure that all applicants have thoroughly refined their proposals before the official application process commences.

This is just one of the reasons that so many gamblers in the district are moving towards placing bets online over seeking out the more traditional in-person casino experience further afield. While, undoubtedly, brick-and-mortar casinos have an enduring appeal, the rise of online casinos has been astronomic, with the likes of no-KYC casinos proving to be a hit with those players who prefer to gamble with cryptocurrency and don’t want the hassle of a lengthy, and sometimes intrusive sign-up process. Casino expert Kane Pepi recommends thorough research and even using an online casino comparison by an expert team to find the best online options. There, he says, players can find, the safest platforms for bonuses, minimum deposits, withdrawal times, and customer support.”

However, the online casino industry hasn’t done much to dampen the ambitions of the big guns of the traditional in-person gambling scene. There are still several prominent players in the casino industry that are expected to vie for the brick-and-mortar casino licenses in the downstate region. Among them is Las Vegas Sands, which has proposed a colossal $4 billion casino resort at the Nassau Coliseum site.

Despite the prolonged wait for downstate casinos in New York, the high stakes involved underscore the importance of ensuring a meticulous and thorough decision-making process. With quite literally billions of dollars hanging in the balance, all parties involved are invested in getting it right.

Meanwhile, the delay in downstate casino licensing continues to reverberate through various sectors. Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr., a staunch advocate for downstate casinos, has expressed frustration over the delays, arguing that the delays are stalling the economic benefits these establishments will bring. On top of his objections, the delay is a guaranteed blow to the major casino operators who will also face a degree of financial uncertainties amid the extended timeline.

The delay in downstate casino licensing has also raised questions about the broader economic implications for the region. Local businesses – especially those in the hospitality and entertainment sectors – were anticipating a boost from the arrival of new casinos. With the timeline now pushed back, these businesses face prolonged uncertainty and potential revenue losses.

The delay also presents challenges for job creation initiatives in the New York region, as the construction and operation of new casinos were expected to generate employment opportunities. Local governments and workforce development agencies must now reassess their plans and strategies in light of the extended timeline.

Moreover, the delay in downstate casino licensing could impact tourism initiatives aimed at attracting visitors to the region. The prospect of new casino resorts was a key selling point in marketing campaigns designed to lure tourists to New York City and its surrounding areas. With the timeline for casino openings pushed back, tourism officials may need to recalibrate their promotional efforts to maintain visitor interest and engagement.

In addition to its economic ramifications, the delay in downstate casino licensing has also sparked political debates and discussions. Lawmakers, community leaders, and advocacy groups have weighed in on the issue, offering differing perspectives on the potential benefits and drawbacks of expanded gambling in the region.

And, these discussions are only likely to intensify as the licensing process unfolds and more details about specific proposals emerge.

Do the Yankees Have a Legitimate Shot at the World Series?

$

As a Yankees fan, you can’t help but wish they dominated the MLB and clinched that World Series for a record-breaking 28th time this year, right? But with such an impressive showing by other teams, do the Yankees have a legitimate chance this year?

Well, looking at the current forms of their top players, it’s not that improbable. Let’s dig deep into the team’s current form, strengths, and weaknesses and assess their chances.

The Yankees roster

The Yankees have always had impressive players, including legends like Babe Ruth, donning their colors. Things are no different this season, either. The team has a solid mix of experience and fresh talent, giving them that extra edge, especially in clutch situations. Judge, Stanton, and LeMahieu remain the pillars of the offense, able to hit for both average and power. The power, speed, and strength of Judge and Stanton can make a huge difference in some crucial games lined up.

On the pitching side, Gerrit Cole stands out as the key player to look out for with his strikeout capabilities and prowess in commanding the plate against the opposition. His experience and skills can greatly benefit the Yankees in their bid for the MLB World Series. Moreover, the Yankees have an excellent bullpen this year with Aroldis Chapman and Chad Green, who can win games single-handedly.

Power and depth

The Yankees have a very potent lineup when it comes to the power-hitting. They have remained one of the most formidable teams in hitting home runs, and this year was no exception. The fact that the team is capable of scoring runs at a fast rate also puts them in a position to win more games, especially in tight matches and do-or-die situations.

In addition, having a deep roster is beneficial in terms of flexibility and sustainability. We have seen teams decimated by injuries in the MLB and could never make a comeback. Thanks to the deep bench, the Yankees have plenty of firepower in their standbys. This year’s Yankees don’t seem to rely on their star players to win matches, which is a huge plus.

Challenges and weaknesses

The journey to the World Series has not been the smoothest for the Yankees this year. The injury situation of some of the stars has had many fans worried. The consistency is also under scrutiny this season. Yes, the Yankees played some fabulous ball this year, but there have also been some dismal performances.

Another worry is their record against the better-ranked teams. While they have trounced some of the better teams this season, they lack consistency.

The competition

The American League has some of the best teams playing wonderfully this season. The Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and Boston Red Sox are in contention for a place in the playoffs. These teams are tough to beat, and the Yankees will have to overcome all these teams to get to the World Series.

In the National League, possible World Series participants could be the Los Angeles Dodgers or the San Diego Padres, who have a deep roster and prior playoff success. The Yankees need to be ready to rise to the occasion and fight with the best of the best to win the club’s 28th title.

Management and succession

Aside from the numbers on the scoreboard, organizational culture and history are a driving force in the Yankees’ quest for the World Series. Considering that it is a new team, manager Aaron Boone needs to ensure that the players remain motivated and work towards achieving their goals throughout the season. His choices, especially where there is pressure involved, will be important. He has to ensure that the team believes in their talent and that the players give their absolute best on the field.

The Yankees are often in a weird predicament; their strength is often their weakness. After winning 27 titles, the pressure to perform can be immense. We have seen many teams succumb to such immense pressure, and it can do weird things, especially in the playoffs.

Given their team, bench strength, and performance this year, Ynakees look like a formidable team to lift the World Series. No wonder the betting market is hot for the team this season. If you want to get in on the action follow World Sports Network (WSN.com), for updated information on New York sports betting.

To conclude

The Yankees do have their chances for the World Series, though the path to the title is not easy. The team has the strength and talent to rise to the occasion, but as fans, we must also acknowledge the problems the team is facing.

The constant injury threats and inconsistent performances are not helping. To be in contention, the team must bounce back and set their eyes on the big target- clinching the World Series.

Our Forgotten but Notable Neighbors: Joseph Lynch

By: Jerome Kleiman

In 2005, when Joe Lynch was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, it was already 40 years since his death. He had twice been the Bantamweight Champion of the World back in the early 1920s, the Roar- ing Twenties, an era known as the Golden Age of Boxing, when boxing was the preeminent sport in the world, and when there was only one champion in each weight class. During this period Joe Lynch was a household name, known far and wide by both boxing fans and non-fans alike, so popular was the sport and so famous were its champions.

Although he has largely faded into obscu- rity, remembered mostly by sports historians, there is a side to Joe Lynch’s story that is very relevant to Rockland County, for he spent most of his life here as an extremely active and civic-minded resident of New City, NY. Joe Lynch was born in 1896 to an impover- ished Irish immigrant family on Manhattan’s West Side. Today it is upscale and known as Hell’s Kitchen, but at the time it was a rough and poverty-stricken area in which one had to learn to defend himself to survive. Lynch is quoted as saying, “I had to fight in the neigh- borhood or wouldn’t have been a good Irish- man.” But street fighting helped prepare him for his future profession. Always good with his dukes, he realized that if you are going to fight anyway, why not get paid for it, and hence he took an interest in boxing, the manly art of self-defense. In 1918, at the age of 18, and fol- lowing a short stint as an amateur, he had his first play-for-pay fight

Always very skinny, Joe was able to box as a bantamweight, which has a 118lbs limit. At the time, unlike today, the smaller fighters were numerous and also extremely popular with the fans. Lynch had a major advantage over most of his opponents since at 5’8” he was several inches taller and had a significantly longer reach. Besides that, he packed an explosive right-hand wallop, was an intelligent ring gen- eral, and owned a chin of stone (he was never knocked-out). With all those tools, he rapidly made his way up the ladder in his division.

Fighting almost on a weekly basis, he per- fected his skills — pacing, knowing when to attack and when to stay out of range, how to counterpunch and how to adjust his style to different opponents. World War I interrupted his career. Lynch became a Doughboy, serving in France for over a year as a member of the 27th h Infantry Division.

Once back in the states, he rapidly became a top contender. On December 22, 1920, at Madison Square Garden, despite fighting with a broken left thumb, Joe Lynch defeated Pete Herman of New Orleans in a 15- round deci- sion to become the Bantamweight Champion of the World. Lynch would defend his belt several times, only to lose it to Herman in a rematch. Then, on July 10, 1922, he regained the title by KO’ing the then World Champion Johnny Buff of Jersey City.

Two years later Joe relinquished the title again, this time losing a decision to Abe Gold- stein. By 1924, it was becoming very dif- ficult for Lynch to make weight. Before the Goldstein fight, he had to spend hours in the steam room sweating off pounds to get down to 118lbs. In doing so he depleted his energy, which contributed to his loss to Bernstein, a man he had knocked out a few years before.

Joe had followed his father’s advice to save his money, and with in excess of 150 profes- sional fights under his belt, at age 30 the frugal Mr. Lynch was already a very wealthy man. Realizing that it was becoming too difficult to continue as a Bantamweight and tired of starv- ing himself before big fights, Lynch decided to retire.

In 1926, with his wife, the former Anna Harvey, who had been his childhood sweetheart, Lynch purchased over 70 acres of farmland in New City, bounded on the south by New Hempstead Road, opposite today’s Rockland County Courthouse and Government Office buildings, where the now deserted Sain build- ing, and the Animal Medical of New City stand.

With no intention of personally doing any farming, they leased the fields to local farmers. Friendly, gregarious and now finally able to eat without having a trainer constantly looking over his shoulder, Joe Lynch joined many local civic groups in New City. Far away from the West Side slums, and the hustle and bustle of the big city, once relocating to the New City of nearly 100 years ago, a sparsely populated, ru- ral community with trees instead of tenements, and fertile soil instead of hard asphalt side- walks, Joe spent a lot of time involved with the New City Fire Department and the local Democratic Party club.

In 1928, for a short while, Joe Lynch togeth- er with his partner, George M. Cohan, the most famous entertainer of the day, owned the Elms Hotel, across the street from the then newly build County Courthouse. Joe was a very ac- tive member of the fire department for many years, serving several terms as firehouse fore- man and then fire chief. He was known as the “fire-fighting chief and fighting fire-chief”. He also served as president of the New City Dem- ocratic Club and V.P. of the Rockland Coun- ty Democratic club. He even ran for County Constable and is said to have been a County Deputy Sheriff. In addition, among his other involvements, Lynch was a member of the Elks. In 1926 at the induction ceremony there were three new members, the former world boxing champion, a local judge and a priest from Nanuet — quite a threesome.

During the FDR administration, the Postmaster General was James “Big Jim” Farley from Stony Point. Back when Lynch had been champion, Farley had been the Chairman of the NY State Athletic Commission, and the two proud Irishmen had become acquainted. In the late 1930s, Postmaster General Far- ley appointed his old boxing buddy and now hard- working Democrat, Mr. Joseph Lynch, as the Postmaster of the New City Post Of- fice. Lynch would continue in that positionuntil the early 1950s. Following the elec- tion of Dwight Eisenhower as President, a Republican was appointed as the New City postmaster. Anna Lynch, who had been very active in local church activi- ties, died in 1955. She and Joe never had children. Joe Lynch, after losing his Post- master position kept a low profile. He be- gan to lose vision in one eye. Maybe the effects of absorbing punches in over 150 professional bouts were finally catching up to him. On September 1,1965, at the age of 68, he accidentally drowned in Sheepshead Bay where he had been vis- iting family members. For a few days, stories about the death of this once great boxer appeared throughout the nation and beyond. Joe Lynch is still considered one of the greatest Bantamweight boxers of all-time. The eminent boxing writer Nat Fleischer ranked him #4. Boxing Scene has him at #8. And, as previously men- tioned, he was inducted into the Inter- national Boxing Hall of Fame in 2005. However, Joe Lynch would also want to be remembered as a proud, long-term res- ident of New City and Rockland County, as a neighbor who was very involved in civic activities, and as an indispensable part of his community. Joseph and Anna Lynch are buried in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Nanuet.

The world of fitness technology has become dramatically altered over the last couple of decades—from easy workout gadgets and machines to sophisticated, data-driven solutions for personal health and wellness. In the article, we take a close look at new developments in fitness technology, examine the coming-of-age of artificial intelligence as applied in fitness, give insight into emerging trends transforming workout routines, and show future directions that further integrate fitness technology into life.

Cutting-Edge Innovations in Fitness Technology

Advanced Wearables and Trackers

Fitness wearables have been on fire, and today they are way beyond the simple step counter or heart rate monitor. State-of-the-art trackers are now capable of monitoring blood glucose levels, blood pressure, respiratory rate, sleep quality, and stress levels. This is enhanced even more by the integration of AI to give individual health feedback and customized recommendations based on your data. The statistic, therefore, makes it very clear that wearables are becoming pivotal in making sure we get fitter and healthier.

Smart Fabrics and Wearable Technology

Imagine workout clothes that track all of your fitness metrics in real-time; that is where smart fabrics fall in the lineup of new cutting-edge developments in fitness technology. These advanced textiles feature conductive fibers and embedded sensors, collecting data from workouts to analyze. The smart fabrics link with mobile devices, providing live feedback on performance.

Google, with its Project Jacquard, is pioneering this technology and is developing fabrics that not only interact with digital devices but also monitor your movements and heart rate and adjust to your body temperature. This integration of functionality with convenience sets a new standard in fitness wear. As you optimize your workouts with such advanced gear, pairing it with other well-regarded tools, such as a creatine monohydrate supplement, can further enhance your performance and recovery.

The Rise of AI in Fitness Apps

Personalized Workout Plans and Health Monitoring

Artificial intelligence is changing fitness apps through genuinely personalized experiences. AI-driven algorithms examine user data to come up with tailored workout plans, making alterations in real time based on performance. Some of the top apps powered by AI are Nike Training Club for customized training programs, MyFitnessPal for AI-driven nutritional recommendations, Strava with artificial intelligence powering social and competitive fitness tracking, and Peloton with an AI-driven workout experience. These apps track your progress but learn from your habits and preferences themselves, only to provide more accurate and effective guidance.

AI and Big Data

Artificial intelligence, coupled with big data, opens up new opportunities for technology to meet fitness goals. This technology is being implemented in applications like Fuelbetter to track nutrient loss and recovery from every sweat droplet, empowering athletes to fine-tune their training and nutrition plans. This means that the size of the global AI market in healthcare is expected to rise at a CAGR from 2022 to 2030, hence the huge disruption AI is making in fitness and health tech.

Emerging Trends in Fitness Technology

Functional Fitness Over High-Intensity Training

As dominant as HIIT has been in fitness trends recently, the reality is that it slowly starts to give way to functional fitness. The approach focuses on preparing the body for everyday movements and activities. Other major drivers of this trend include a focal point on resistance training, growth in weighted calisthenics, and functional HIIT workouts.

Fitness technology is moving toward this tendency through apps and devices that track and guide functional workouts. Apparel takes on a new dimension when brands are in the process of delivering “squat-proof” leggings optimized for a span of movements. In other words, this development illustrates a growing demand for functional and relevant fitness solutions that make everyday life easier.

Hyper-Targeted Fitness Solutions

With a better understanding of fitness and body mechanics, we’re seeing the rise of super-focused fitness solutions. These are very specialized workouts that deal with just one part of your body or bring you certain results, like facial yoga, working out the facial muscles, mewing for jaw alignment and aesthetics, or exercises to work certain muscle groups. Fitness apps are doing this as well by adding these types of specialized workouts and letting users get focused on very particular things about their physique or health goals. Such a trend will help clients achieve results that are tailor-made for them and more aptly answer their fitness needs.

Future Directions and Predictions

Integration with Healthcare

The line blurs between fitness technology and healthcare, with the trend moving toward wearables contributing to personalized healthcare and preventive medicine. Next-generation devices would monitor vital signs at the level of a hospital and alert their owners to potentially impending health problems, all while sharing information to advance the understanding of community health. Such integration will turn personal health management into meaningfulness, making people proactive about their health and more able to interact effectively with healthcare providers.

AI’s Role in Global Health Initiatives

This is not all; the potential of AI extends to global health initiatives. It will inevitably democratize fitness information and advice for the masses around the globe, whereby people will start to have access to top-notch fitness advice. Diet and lifestyle management taught by AI applications will reach a large number of countries and make their populations healthier.

Moreover, integrating data on physical activity into community health strategies will provide more efficient monitoring and management of the health status of the community. Even companies, such as Les Mills, are now into AI-driven global fitness initiatives to make quality fitness guidance accessible to all people, regardless of their geographical location.

Comparison Table: Traditional Fitness Tech vs. Next-Gen Solutions

Feature Traditional Fitness Tech Next-Gen Fitness Tech

All in With John Jastremski: Did Some Saturday Night Drama In Boston Save The 2024 Yankees?

$
0
0

Look, in no way am I going to pretend that the 2024 Yankees situation would mirror the depths of pain and sorrow that was felt in Boston in 2004.

86 years of history has a lot to do with that.

However, the Yankees have a little World Series drought of their own and haven’t exactly had the best history against the hated rival over the last few seasons.

Saturday morning was about as miserable a wakeup as you could have as a Yankee fan.

The team squandered a 3 run lead that was given to them by a dramatic Aaron Judge home run and the prolonged abomination of their June and July felt in many ways never ending.

It’s tough for one day to immediately flip a switch for a team, but I do wonder if we will look back on Saturday July 27th as a massive turning point in the Yankees season.

Before the Yankees played the Boston Red Sox, the team acquired infielder/outfielder Jazz Chisolm from the Miami Marlins.

Chisolm adds a much needed dynamic of speed and athleticism to a team searching for exactly that.

It’s almost as if the news of the Chisolm pick up sparked a lineup that for a stretch of two months has looked pretty anemic.

That was on full display on Saturday night in Boston.

The Yankees and the Red Sox played a classic Fenway Park back and forth affair.

The Yankees were trailing by one heading into the 9th inning, were down to their last strike and found a way to tie the game thanks to Trent Grisham of all people.

They eventually rallied to score a bunch of runs in extra innings and finally took down Boston in dramatic fashion.

In order for the win to feel significant, they needed to go and back it up the following day.

On Sunday, the Yankees lineup once again produced in a big way. Pitcher Carlos Rodon delivered a high quality start and the Yankees won their first series of the year against the Red Sox.

Now, the Yankees have a long way to go in order to truly feel like the Boston Series this past weekend was the turning point of the 2024 season.

The next few months will either enhance that point or disregard it.

Sometimes there’s something funny in the water at Fenway Park when it comes to season turnarounds.

The 2004 Red Sox were slacking midway through July of that season.

They did not look the part of the Yankees in any way, plus ya know that whole Curse of the Bambino thing…

Yes, the 2004 ALCS is eventually where the Red Sox slayed the Yankee demons and made history of their own, but I would argue that the 2004 Red Sox officially made their move in July of that season.

They trailed the Yankees in a late summer marathon game. Emotions were running high after the Jason Varitek-Alex Rodriguez brawl.

Underrated Yankee killer Bill Mueller hit a walkoff homer against Mariano Rivera and from that point forward the 2004 Red Sox took off.

Maybe I’m searching, maybe I’m reaching, but maybe we look back on the 2024 New York Yankees and remember that July Saturday night in Boston….

The Giants enter the 2024 season with limited expectations.

They are coming off a season in which they only won six games and they lost Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, all summer, the narrative will be front and center on quarterback Daniel Jones.

How will Jones respond from the ACL Injury? How will he develop chemistry with 1st round Malik Nabers?

These are obvious Giant questions that need positive answers for a successful 2024 season.

However, there is another big key to a successful Giants turnaround.

A subplot that wont generate the same attention that’s being paid to the quarterback.

The Giants strategy on defense is in many ways trying to pay tribute to the great defense’s of their past.

The Giants have invested a lot of resources into their defensive line.

There is a whole lot of salary, draft capital and investment in Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns.

On paper, those three should form one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL.

Lawrence and Thibodeaux have already played at a high level the last two seasons and the hope is that the addition of Burns transforms the defensive line.

Burns profiles as the classic speed, edge rusher that has been lacking from this defense for quite some time.

Look, outside of the Giants pass rush, there are a whole lot of questions on defense.

Questions especially in the secondary.

The Giants need their defensive line to wreck games. It doesn’t have to be Strahan, Tuck & Osi good, but it had better honor the tradition of elite Giant pass rush units.

When you want to start plotting reasons for why the Giants could surprise in 2024, this trio should be at the top of your list…

Just over two weeks ago, the U.S. women’s rugby team firmly cemented itself in rugby history. In an extremely tight game, Alex Sedrick broke away from Team Australia and scored the winning try, which awarded Team U.S.A a five point goal in the final 8 seconds. She then clinched the win by scoring an additional two points in a conversion as the ball soared through the two goal posts at the end of the field. These points left the final score at 14-12 and secured the first ever Olympic Medal for the U.S. Rugby Team. Following this momentous game, Michele Kang pledged a whopping 4 million dollars over the next four years to the women’s rugby team to help them grab the gold in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. This stunning game and buzzworthy donation has got all eyes on women’s rugby, and many asking what’s next for the sport.

Phaidra Knight, a former Nyack bussiness owner and a highly decorated and prolific rugby player turned Mixed Martial Arts fighter, discussed her experience being in Paris for the win and the understated importance of women in sports.

The day of the July 30th win, Knight had one word – emotion. From the second she began preparing for the day, Knight recalled that she could sense a shift in the energy of the day, stating “I could feel everything in my bones. I could feel that something incredible was about to happen.” In the breathtaking moments when Sedrick broke away and scored those final points, Knight shared that she “…immediately shuddered. I was in tears. All I could say was oh my God, oh my God. The tears, I couldn’t fight [them] back, I was very emotional.”

Knight played with the USA Rugby team from 1999 to 2013, has been recognized as one of the best players in the world in two different rugby positions, and has made three World Cup appearances. She is also the first African American woman to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame, and the eighth woman ever inducted. Knight expressed that she saw the game as “…a change in the tide for the sport here in the U.S., especially for the women who have fought so valiantly and consistently over the past…40 plus years”.

As she cheered on the team, Knight highlighted one major component she witnessed during the July 30th game. As she watched, she noted how she believed that the players were calling upon the strength and power of those who have played before them, or “high women”. Knight continued, sharing that these high women are players who Team U.S.A  “…regarded as an inspiration”, with Knight being one of them.

In an interview with NBC, current U.S. Women’s rugby player Ilona Maher stated that “We say in rugby a lot that we want to pass the jersey (to the next generation) … I think today we really made the jersey better so that other young girls can grow up wanting to play rugby.”

This win undoubtedly showcased the strength and talent of the U.S. Women’s Rugby team, while simultaneously underscoring the importance of breaking down our constructs around femininity both on and off the field. Knight stressed the urgency of expanding our views around gender, saying that these athletes “…are great at what they do in these sports, they are great technically… and they still reserve their right to be women, whatever that looks like for them. They define that, not society.”

So what does Knight have to say to those whose interest in rugby was piqued after watching the Olympics? “Just ‘try’ it!” she teases, laughing at the rugby pun. Knight describes the rugby community warmly, sharing the variety of positions on the field, the strong worldwide network, and the sense of belonging and acceptance that is inherent to the rugby community whether you are in the game or in the stands cheering on these incredible players.

The title of captain on any team in any sport is a special honor reserved for the best of the best.

The captain of a team in New York City takes the honor to a totally different level.

Think about the history of captains in New York Sports and the legends that held the particular titles.

Lou Gehrig delivered the “Luckiest Man In The World” speech while battling a deadly disease.

Willis Reed delivered a Finals Entrance for the ages that propelled the Knicks to their first ever NBA title.

Thurman Munson was the heart and soul of the late 70s Yankees before his tragic passing.

These are all examples of brilliant captains and leaders before my time on this earth.

Think about the captains in town since I was born in 1988, and it’s still an unbelievable group.

Don Mattingly and Patrick Ewing personified toughness, leadership by example and full fledged heart.

Mark Messier taught a team with a tortured history how to win and answer a whole lot of demons.

Derek Jeter and David Wright displayed the grace of knowing they are the face of the franchise and finding a way to say and do the right thing in the public eye again and again.

I know I love speaking off the tip of my tongue, but I can’t imagine putting together a speech as poetic and perfect as Jeter’s speech right after the final game at the Old Yankee Stadium.

I think it’s fair to say the history involving New York City athletes and captain is rather special.

Last week, Knicks star Jalen Brunson joined this illustrious group and was named Captain of the New York Knicks.

Brunson has emerged over the last two seasons as one of the most beloved players in town.

He works hard, gets better and better and has become the face of the up and coming, emerging Knicks franchise.

I hope that in about 10 years or so, there are some iconic moments that are forever linked to Brunson’s leadership and career as a Knick.

Brunson joins Yankee star Aaron Judge as the two larger than life captains and faces of New York sports in 2024.

I can’t think of two better current New York athletes that are more worthy and deserving of the captain mantle.

On and off the field, first class leaders, players and human beings.

I think it’s fair to say the title of New York Captain is alive and well.

Boulder catcher turned pro player reminisces about time in Rockland

On July 25th, former professional baseball player Stephen Cardullo was honored at a special “homecoming” game at the New York Boulder’s Boulder Stadium. During the game a personalized banner was revealed, showcasing the aptly titled “Cardullo’s Corner”. This banner honors not only Cardullo’s positions of playing left field and corner outfield for the NY Boulders, but also his rise to playing with Major League Baseball. Following the three seasons Cardullo played with the Boulders, he went on to become their first player to graduate to the MLB when he signed with the Colorado Rockies in 2016.

Cardullo largely credits his rise to Major League Baseball with his time spent in Rockland County. For the duration of his time with the Boulders, Cardullo lived with local Rockland County host family Dick and Mary Whitford. Cardullo described them as being “unbelievable people, the nicest people you’d ever meet…it was a home away from home”. Cardullo also warmly shared his appreciation for the Boulder’s fanbase, stating “I think the Boulders had one of the best fan bases… it’s unreal to have that level of support”.

For this visit to Rockland, Cardullo had his own personal fan club attending. His two daughters and wife were in the stands for his game, cheering on Cardullo and the dedication of Cardullo’s Corner. He shared that this was “the first time my daughters [have] ever seen me play a live game”. In an emotional interview given during the unveiling, Cardullo is shown describing the dedication as “a great blessing”, referencing his wife and children up in the stands and stating “It’s great to be back”.

Cardullo is currently the CEO of Dullo Zone baseball in Florida, where he does skill camps, coaching, and private lessons for youth players. He began Dullo Zone in 2022 and says that working with children has not only helped him learn patience, but has helped him to“…become a better father as well”. Cardullo encourages all children to become involved in sports. As a child, Cardullo himself was heavily involved with a multitude of sports including ice hockey, soccer, football, and of course, baseball.  Of course, he holds a soft spot for baseball, but his adoration for the sport springs from a surprising place. “It’s a game of failure”, he says, continuing with “You are failing more than you are succeeding.” Cardullo believes that this “game of failure” helps children to “build a great sense of confidence in [themselves] to deal with ups and downs.”

While this game was Cardullo’s first professional game since 2021, it sounds like it might not be his last. Coming up to Rockland and seeing the fans and Boulder Stadium has left an undeniable impact, and Cardullo shared “I want to do it again next year!”. Hopefully Rockland will get to cheer on Cardullo in summer of 2025, but until then get your tickets for the next game at nyboulders.com/home, and catch a glimpse of Cardullo’s Corner for yourself.
